Don’t Go To Wyoming

3 min read

Finally, I’ve gotten a chance to sit down and unpack everything!

About two weeks ago, my wife and I left our home in Oregon where we’d been for exactly 4 years. We set off on a five-day journey with our Siberian husky, Kylo in the back of a 2024 black Jeep Grand Cherokee with only 8,000 miles on the odometer. By the end of the trip, we’d have tacked on another 3,000 to that tally.

The destination was New Jersey, where we’re staying with my mom for a few weeks before moving up to New York!

The route

We traveled through 10 states, in total:

1.) Oregon: I got a speeding ticket around midnight by the Oregon Highway Patrol 10 miles before the Idaho border, going 89 in a 70. I just wanted to get to the damn hotel in Boise for the night. It’s $265.

2.) Idaho: this is the second time Sara and I have been to Boise — we always end up getting breakfast at a restaurant called Bacon. Not surprisingly, they have amazing bacon.

3.) Utah: God’s most beautiful butt crack.

4.) Wyoming: this state blew my mind because of how underpopulated it was. 50-100 mile stretches of open fields without even a streetlight, exit, sign, or any insication of humanity whatsoever. Turns out there are only 560,000 people in the entire state…but it’s the 10th biggest state by landmass. Felt the presence of Native American history here. Eerie and fascinating.

How I’ll always remember Wyoming

5.) Nebraska: Seems almost metropolitan compared to Wyoming, and that’s not saying much. Interesting to see that America truly feeds itself from the crops produced in these gigantic plains states.

6.) Iowa: do not stay at the Days Inn in Des Moines.

7.) Illinois: there’s a good Chik Fil-A outside Chicago.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire in Nebraska

8.) Indiana: KKK vibes, keep driving.

9.) Ohio: Michigan’s boring cousin.

10.) Pennsylvania: pristine countryside. Listened to a lot of Psychopedia in this state.

11.) New Jersey: mom’s place

Now, we’ve been settled in for about 10 days and I’m getting back into my normal routine.

Last year I stopped coaching and went radio silent on all my social platforms in order to tap into what was next for me. In the space of 12 months, I launched New Wave Press — an independent publishing company that produces beautiful books for experts, industry-leaders and entrepreneurs who want to share their wisdom with the world — but don’t want to spend their valuable time learning how to write, publish or market a bestseller.

(Hint: it’s a lot of work.)

In my career, I’ve published 3 books and spent the better part of a decade learning how to turn a well-written book into a lifelong stream of customers. I’d say I’ve gotten quite good at it.

We’re currently supporting three authors to bring their stories to life in the form of a book:

The first is my friend James Swanwick, who has built an entire business around helping thousands of professionals reduce or quit drinking. More people than ever are waking up to the reality of how harmful alcohol is and James has definitely been ahead of the curve. The Alcohol-Free Lifestyle book (we may change the name) is set to debut in Q1 2025. This book was just sent to our editor, Michael, who has worked on over 100 projects with major publishing houses, including editing Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most recent book. I’m very excited about helping this project come to fruition as I rarely drink myself — typically less than twice a year — and I think it’s a hack for living a better life.

The second book New Wave Press is publishing is The Healing Way by my friend, Dr. Brett Jones. This book maps a process for the reader to craft a personalized strategy for healing mental, physical, emotional or spiritual pain naturally. It accomplishes this using an integrated “Whole System” approach that does much more than simply address the symptoms of disease. To develop the material for the The Healing Way, we transcribed over a dozen hours of his best teachings into a document with over 225,000 words. From there, we’re developing The Healing Way book, which will hit shelves Q1 2025 as well.

The third book we’re publishing is yet to be titled — it’s the most interesting story of the bunch…but I’ll fill you in on the details later.

If you’re an expert, industry leader or professional who wants to stand out by writing a powerful book, I’m hosting a free workshop that you’re not going to want to miss!
